The School of Arts and Design is a School of the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria founded in 1990 in the old spa town of Caldas Rainha. The School began its teaching activity in 1990 with three bachelor's courses capable of filling the lack of competitiveness of the ceramic industry and the absence of qualified technicians in the fields of Arts and Design. Currently the school has, in full curricular functioning, superior courses in the area of the arts: Plastic Arts, Design of Environments, Industrial Design, Product Design - Ceramics and Glass, Graphic and Multimedia Design, Theater, Sound and Image. Some of these courses are taught post-work. The qualities that are evident in the production of these courses are already recognized, both in the quality of the proposals presented in the framework of the curricular stages, and in the participation of their students and teachers in national and international competitions, in which they are often distinguished with recognized success.

Enable the graduate to know the different conditions (technical, material and human) to solve a design problem and prepare him to integrate them in an autonomous, entrepreneurial and enlightened way in a project, in a direct or cooperative way.
